The Supreme Court released a new version of its website last Friday night (7/28) (www.supremecourt.gov).

While most of the improvements relate to load time and menu structure, others are more substantive:

  • The updated Court calendar provides further detail about its argument days, including links to the relevant docket entries and the questions at issue in each case.
  • A new Case Citation Finder, which can be used to retrieve any citation in the form recommended by the Reporter of Decisions. The Finder will provide the appropriate citation for every signed, per curiam, or in-chambers opinion published in the United States Reports.
  • A page which provides links to every internet authority cited in the Court’s public opinions since 2005. The first of its kind in the federal judiciary, this page allows users to search online authorities by docket number, case name, and URL.

Electronic Filing

Of note, the Court’s website will soon support electronic filing, similar to PACER, in addition to booklet format filing (more information to follow at a later date).  The Court’s Press Office has provided the following note in regards to electronic filing:

Once the Court’s new electronic filing system is implemented, attorneys who are required to submit filings to the Court through the system will be able to access it from the “Electronic Filing” page.  Only attorneys who have obtained a username and password for the system will be able to submit documents through the system.  Once the system is implemented, attorneys and members of the general public will be able to access electronic copies of filings through the Court’s docket system.

Stay tuned to the CockleBur for future developments.
